Why does Alto choose to use Italian leather?
Alto's raw leather material comes from Europe, and it was made specifically in a historical Italian leather factory. The Italian leather craft is able to bring out the rich colors of the leather, and it leads to a wonderful and delicate touch with a slight leather-ish scent, while keeping a strict control under the environmental regulations of the European Union. A good raw material makes a perfect and delicate leather product, and this is also an essence that Alto continuously pursues.
Why does the color of Alto's leathers change?
Alto opts for the production craft that keeps the natural full-grain leather, allowing leather to exhibit their natural pattern, color and pore. With use, hands’ sweat and oil cause gradual chemical change, resulting in an aging effect on the leather, which progressively becomes darker and develops its unique personal feature. Such is the fun process of nurtured aging of leather.
Is Alto's leather scratch-resistant and waterproof?
Natural leather have pores, meaning that they are able to absorb moisture. To make it scratch-resistant and waterproof, a thicker paint coating is required, then the natural and rich surface will disappear, and the fun of nurtured aging would not be felt. Alto hopes to let everybody feel the beauty of natural materials. Therefore, enjoy thoroughly the traces left on used leather, which are life memories treasured for you.

If you purchase something and you really like, the best compliment you can give that manufacturer is to buy from them again. And that is exactly why I now have my second high-quality Alto Leather Watch Band for my Apple Watch in Navy Blue. Admittedly, I am an Apple-Watch-Band-Aholic. There’s nothing like a high quality leather watch band for your Apple Watch wrapped to your wrist and I’ve built quite a collection over the last few years. My first band from Alto is the Cement color, which is a gray which is quite beautiful. Both the Cement and my new Navy Blue Alto Leather Bands are something special to say the least and a welcome addition to my collection. You’ll note Alto bands are not inexpensive, but they’re most definitely not overpriced either. They are beautifully made, super comfortable, yet you feel you have something substantial and high-quality around your wrist.
The brand Alto, which means “High” in Italian, is made with full-grain Italian Leather. They are Aniline dyed, which is a type of leather dyed with soluble dyes. The dye colors the leather, without making it look like a painted leather surface and the resulting product retains the hide’s natural surface. Higher grade leathers will show natural variations on the surface and both my bands from Alto are an excellent presentation of a higher quality Aniline leather.
Alto says their bands present a minimalistic and elegant grace in the quality of the leather and the exquisite craftsmanship. I like every part of the craftmanship which went into making these bands. My Apple Watch is the new 7 Series in Stainless, which is highly polished. The watch lugs which go into the watch track are highly polished and fit perfectly. The buckle is nice and chunky and finished in a brushed Stainless Steel with the Alto logo embossed, which adds a nice touch and shows Alto is proud of their product.
The underside of their bands, which hug your wrist is a breathable Nubuck Leather lining. It’s very soft and will wear comfortably for hours on end. As is the case with all new leather products, the band will become softer over time.
Alto only offers the Cement and Navy Blue bands with Stainless connectors. Alto, if you read this, you should offer customers all of the bands in either black OR Stainless connectors. To be honest, the buyer who is most likely going to pay $100 for a watch band for their Apple Watch, is more likely an owner of the more expensive Stainless Steel watch and I’m sure they, like me would not want a watch band with black connectors attached to a Stainless Steel case.
Simply said, Alto Leather Bands are beautiful, extremely well made, comfortable and worth every penny. My two bands will get a lot of wear on my Apple Watch. And when Alto offers the other bands with Stainless connectors, there may well be a third Alto band in my collection!
